It is now almost halfway into July which means 2024 is half over. What were your goals this year? How did you do? What adjustments do you need to make?

I actually have a marketing plan with OKRs for my business (for those of you wondering what OKRs are, they are Objectives and Key Results. I added tactics to mine). My OKRs were about how many leads I was going to generate through networking, social media, and referrals, how good I should be at closing those leads, continuing my education, and improving my operational efficiency.

And yes, I keep track of all those things. Maybe not as timely as I could, but I do keep track. So, as I look at my year and review where I have met my goals and where I have fallen short, I realize it is time to adjust. For example, related to my specific goals, here is how I fared:

  • Generate Awareness as measured by number of leads generated per month: C-

  • Convert leads to sales as measured by # leads converted to clients: A

  • Leverage referral network as measured by referral leads by quarter: B

  • Improve services as measured by higher satisfaction ratings / more referrals: B

  • Get ½ CCE credits for renewal as measured by # of CCE credits by EOY: B-

As you can see, my biggest miss is on my first objective, which is essential for my business. In looking at my tactics, I realized I am not networking as much as I would like to. So my reset is to add more networking opportunities to my life. I joined a women’s entrepreneur group to increase my opportunities to network. I also am leveraging other people's posts to share and comment vs. relying on having the time to create my own content.

The steps you should take to review and reset are as follows:

Review Progress:

Gather Your Goals: Start by collecting all your goals, whether they are written down in a planner, scattered on sticky notes, or just floating around in your head. This is a good time to start to document them more formally to make this easier next time.

Track Your Progress: Look at each goal and see if you have a system for tracking your progress. This could be milestones you’ve hit, habits you’ve developed, or simply checking things off a list.

Be Honest: Assess how you’re doing with each goal. Are you ahead of schedule? On track? Behind? Be honest with yourself about your progress.

Analyze and Adjust:

Identify Roadblocks: If you’re behind on a goal, see if you can identify any obstacles that are getting in your way. Are you lacking time, motivation, or resources? Did you do poorly on completing your tactics that you outlined to reach this goal?

Evaluate Your Approach: Consider if your approach to the goal is still working. Maybe you need to adjust your tactics or break down the goal into smaller steps.

Revisit Goal Relevancy: As you review your progress, reflect on whether the goal itself is still relevant. Your priorities and circumstances may have changed, so it’s okay to adjust your goals accordingly.

Make Adjustments:

Refine Strategies: Based on your review, brainstorm some new strategies to get back on track or reach your goal faster.

Set Mini-Goals: Break down large goals into smaller, more manageable milestones. This will give you a sense of accomplishment and keep you motivated.

Adjust Timelines: If needed, adjust the deadlines for your goals. Don’t be afraid to be flexible, especially if unforeseen circumstances arise.

By following these steps, you can effectively review your progress towards your goals and make adjustments as needed. Remember, achieving goals is a journey, not a destination. Be prepared to adapt and keep moving forward!
