I Have A Great Idea. But, What Will My Friends Think?

So you have an idea and you want to know if it is a good idea. But you are afraid to reveal it to your friends and family for fear of sounding stupid. And what if it fails, then you will look even more stupid.

Does that sound familiar? If so, that new idea will unlikely ever come to fruition.

This is a classic case of imposter syndrome. And it is one of the largest energy blocks there is. So what is a person to do?

I suggest that when these fears arise, you ask yourself some questions:

• What is this fear protecting me from?

• How is this fear holding me back?

• What evidence do I have that they will think this is stupid?

• Where did this insecurity come from?

• Why is this insecurity popping up now?

• What is a better message to tell myself?

The gist is that the main thing getting in your way is YOU!

I had a client come up with a mantra that helps him through his imposter syndrome. When his fears pop up, he says to himself “So What?” He found a message that comforted him.

What is your message?

If your thought is that you may look stupid, try turning that message on its head. Maybe something like “I’m brave for trying something new!” or “My friends will envy my ingenuity”
